Elastomeric roof coatings and mastics formulated with Kraton G SEBS polymers combine long-lasting protection against water penetration and ponding with reduced total project costs.  The next-generation, solvent-based coating formulations are low viscosity, low VOC systems.  They are easy to spray or trowel onto roof surfaces, offering excellent adhesion to a wide range of roofing substrates.  Kraton G SEBS-based coatings are highly elastic and durable, requiring low maintenance.  They provide excellent resistance to dirt pick up to maintain an aesthetically attractive, reflective and radiative surface.

Elastomeric Roof Coating Performance

Dirt Pick Up Resistance
Coatings made with Kraton polymers resist dirt pick up to improve long-term durability and reflectance, have extremely low porosity and excellent water resistance. Water and stain resistance produces coating surfaces with better color retention.  Hydrogenated polymers, like Kraton G1643, also feature excellent UV resistance as well as good resistance to weathering, yellowing and staining for extended durability and service life.

Testing completed on Kraton™  G 1643-containing coatings placed in iron oxide slurry for 500 hours demonstrate improved performance compared with typical acrylic formulations.


Radiative Properties
Coatings made with Kraton SEBS polymers exhibit excellent radiative properties. Testing has shown best in class performance initial reflectance and emittance. Samples prepared with the G1643 starting point formulation showed the following:

  • Reflectance: 0.89 ASTMC1549
  • Emittance:    0.88 ASTMC1371

Mastics manufactured using Kraton G SEBS provide roofing contractors with the flexibility needed to facilitate application and provide for complete seam sealing.  The mastics resist cracking even after repeated high/low temperature cycling.  Kraton G SEBS polymers can also be used to formulate primers for low surface energy materials.  Kraton G-based formulations are also well suited for waterproofing the building envelope.

Kraton coatings formulations can be installed in virtually any weather conditions, even at low temperatures and in wet/humid environments.  The Kraton G SEBS polymers provide for rapid curing; second coatings can be applied within four hours on most projects.
