SYLVATRAXX™ Tread Enhancement Additives

Driving Tire Sustainability Without Compromising Performance

Enabling Renewable Content While Optimizing Wet Grip and Rolling Resistance

As tire manufacturers strive to reduce emissions and reach net-zero decarbonization goals, sustainability has become a top priority alongside performance. However, enhancing environmentally responsible content must not compromise vehicle safety, fuel efficiency, or dependability. Kraton addresses this challenge with our SYLVATRAXX ™ portfolio, a range of tread enhancement additives that combine renewable materials with high-performance.

挑战

Tire manufacturers face an increasingly complex set of demands driven by consumer expectations, automotive industry performance standards, and strict global regulations on wet grip, rolling resistance, noise, and durability. At the same time, sustainability has emerged as an equally critical mandate as leading tire companies work toward long-term net-zero goals. As the automotive marker shifts toward electric vehicles and renewable grid power, raw materials are expected to become the primary contributor to life cycle CO2 emissions in tires. Consequently, tire makers urgently require raw material solutions that significantly lower their environmental footprint without degrading performance, safety, or cost efficiency.

创新

Kraton brings over 65 years of rubber and tire industry experience, alongside more than 20 years of developing tread enhancement additives via our proprietary TEA™ Technology. The SYLVATRAXX portfolio provides natural, synthetic, and hybrid solutions tailored to specific tire performance needs. Within this portfolio, SYLVATRAXX 2097 serves as a cost-effective, bio-based alternative to traditional fossil-based hydrocarbon products, designed specifically to optimize the balance between wet grip and rolling resistance. Meanwhile, specialized products like the SYLVATRAXX 8000 series caters to high-performance tires, while SYLVATRAXX 5200 series and 6720 offer customized solutions across varying bio-based content levels.

Key Findings

Through its advanced tread enhancement technology, the SYLVATRAXX portfolio directly delivers on critical safety and performance needs. Improving tire grip on wet roads with SYLVATRAXX 2097 helps reduce braking distances in inclement weather, directly supporting driver safety. At the same time, its enhanced rolling resistance lowers fuel consumption in combustion vehicles and enables extended driving range for electric vehicles. From an environmental standpoint, SYLVATRAXX 2097 is a 97% USDA BioPreferred ® certified bio-based product featuring an 18-month shelf-life that supports waste reduction. Furthermore, because these solutions belong to Kraton’s pine chemistry portfolio, they are sourced entirely from responsibly managed forests, require no land-use change, and cause zero impact to the food chain.
