Press Release
Kraton Performance Polymers to Showcase Innovative Polymer Solutions for Stronger Asphalt Pavements
HOUSTON, Feb. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Kraton Performance Polymers, Inc. (NYSE: “KRA”), a leading global producer of styrenic block copolymers (SBCs) and other engineered polymers, announced today it will showcase its Highly Modified Asphalt (HiMA) technology – a polymer technology developed specifically for asphalt paving – at the Pavement Preservation & Recycling Summit. The Summit, being held for the first time, is a three day event that includes conferences, workshops, exhibitions and technical presentations. Additionally, Kraton will present its research on the performance of highly modified asphalt (HiMA) mixtures versus conventional hot mix asphalt (HMA) mixtures.
HiMA is a styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) polymer technology with a polymer loading more than twice that of ordinary modified asphalt, yet the mixes are readily workable, leading to easy compaction and laying in the field. This high polymer loading makes pavements more Resistant to fatigue and deformation compared to ordinary modified asphalt. According to Vice President Performance Products Robert Gregan, “Kraton is committed to helping infrastructure innovators meet their challenges through the use of our groundbreaking polymer technologies and we are looking forward to showcasing our portfolio at PPRS. We offer one of the widest ranges of polymer modification options available on the market. Our science goes beyond the basics, providing grades specifically invented for paving applications.”
Kraton invites attendees to visit Booth #10 throughout PPRS to learn more about the groundbreaking technologies that are preserving and enhancing pavements across the globe. Kraton’s Sales Development Manager David Bell will present the paper, Performance and Rational Design of Thin, Highly Modified Pavements, on February 24 at 11:00 a.m.
